In this special four-week workshop, participants will explore the unique
art of reduction relief printmaking. Acclaimed guest artist, Tomoko
Murakami, will demonstrate how to create multi-color prints from a
single linoleum block. The main idea is to gradually carve away parts of
the block and print each new layer of color, with each layer building
on the previous one. The course covers the entire process, from
designing and planning, to carving techniques, inking, registration, and
printing with both hand and printing press methods. Participants will
learn to explore the possibilities of color mixing and layering,
enabling students to achieve intricate designs and a wide range of
visual effects. You will gain an understanding of the materials,
processes, and innovations involved in this unique form of relief print
printing!
All levels are welcome, including continuing linocut students.
Please note: This
class requires hand dexterity to maneuver the carving tool.
Participants should feel comfortable standing, and using tools with
sharp blades and edges.
