SOUTH GATE-LYNWOOD, CA – The following is a collection of weekly police, court and fire stories from around the South Gate-Lynwood area this week.

The victim parked her car in Long Beach overnight. The next morning, she found the window broken and jewelry stolen.

When firefighters arrived, they heard that people may have remained trapped in the home, an official said.

His accomplice, also from Hermosa Beach, was immediately sentenced to two years in state prison.

Alcohol or drugs do not appear to have been factors in the crash, police said.

She was chosen from among 29 applicants to replace former Torrance police Chief Mark Matsuda, who announced his retirement in June.

Four children were among those injured in the crash.
