Some may consider Caltrain the Fountain of Youth when it expands its βYouthβ category to include those who are 18 years old, beginning Dec. 21.
The change is in support of a regional fare coordination effort with Bay Area transit agencies to have a standard youth age. Currently, the definition is different at various transit agencies. Adjusting the youth age allows Caltrain to align with what other Bay Area transit agencies will be moving toward. Last week, the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority board took similar action, to become effective in mid-2015.
Caltrain allows youth, along with seniors, customers with disabilities and Medicare cardholders, to ride for half the cost of an adult ticket. Information on Caltrain fares is available at www.caltrain.com/fares.
