Commander of the Castro Valley Area CHP Office Selected as Commander of San Francisco Area

As of October 31, 2014, he replaced Captain Chris Costigan, who now oversees the Contra Costa Area office.

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) announces that Captain Christopher Sherry has been selected as the Commander of San Francisco Area office. On October 31, 2014, he replaced Captain Chris Costigan, who now oversees the Contra Costa Area office. Captain Sherry is an 18 year veteran of the CHP. He is the 4th generation of San Francisco Bay Area law enforcement officers in his family, dating back to his Great-Grandfather who served with the San Francisco Police Department.

Captain Sherry was previously the Commander of the Castro Valley Area office. He has served as a Lieutenant in the Contra Costa and Hayward CHP Area offices, and has worked as a sergeant in the Redwood City and San Jose Area offices. In 2004, Captain Sherry was selected as the supervisor of the CHP’s Judicial Protection Section, ensuring security and protection to the California Supreme Court and California Court of Appeals Justices. Captain Sherry began his career in the Ventura Area office.

Over the course of his career, Captain Sherry has served as a Field Training Officer, Officer Safety Instructor, Emergency Medical Technician, Drug Recognition Expert, Equal Employment Opportunity Investigator, Specialized Response Team Executive Officer, and as a member of the CHP’s Peer Support Program. Captain Sherry is also a member of the CHP’s Advisory Committee for Persons with Disabilities.

Captain Sherry is married and has two children. He graduated from California State University, Chico with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and a Paralegal certificate. He is an Eagle Scout, and is actively involved in his community and church.

Captain Sherry stated, “San Francisco is a great place to live, work, and play. I was born and raised on the Peninsula. It is my honor to return and serve here. As the leader of the San Francisco CHP Area, I am blessed to work with such fine men and women who are dedicated to ensuring the safety, service, and security of all people who may pass through here.”
