Free Job Fair this Friday
Check the complete list of 61 employers--including Virgin America, UPS, the FBI, the Postal Service, retailers and health care providers.
Congresswoman Jackie Speier (D-San Francisco/San Mateo counties) Assemblyman Kevin Mullin (District 22) will host more than 500 jobseekers and more than 60 employers at the 11th Job Hunters Boot Camp on November 21, 2014, 9:30 am - 1 pm at the San Mateo Event Center, Fiesta Hall. Since Speier held the first boot camp at the height of the recession in January 2010 over 5,000 jobseekers have participated and some of them have landed jobs as a direct result of the events.
“I promised that I would hold these events until they are no longer needed and there is clearly still a need with over 500 people signing up,” said Speier. “The economy has improved significantly since the recession, but jobseekers are looking for work against the backdrop of a skyrocketing cost of living. It’s not easy to find employment that pays a wage that can pay the bills in the Bay Area.”
“I am pleased to be co-hosting an event that provides jobseekers direct contact with employers who have openings they need to fill,” said Mullin. “The workshops should also provide important information on how applicants can best approach the overall hiring process. While the improvement to the economy is encouraging, we still have people looking for jobs that cover the high cost of living in the Bay Area.”

Boot camp is designed to help all jobseekers, but this one is particularly focused on helping veterans transitioning from the armed forces into the workforce. More than a dozen of the employers are specifically looking to hire veterans. One of the workshops taught by a veteran will offer practical advice about developing an overall strategy and a step-by-step plan to successfully apply military experience to post-service careers.
The event and parking at the San Mateo County Event Center are free. Job seekers are urged to RSVP on Speier’s website at www.speier.house.gov.
