NWS Warns of Large Waves, Rip Currents in Some Coastal Areas

Though San Mateo county is in the clear, nearby beaches are affected.

The National Weather Service has issued a Beach Hazards Statement in effect Monday for parts of the coastal Bay Area including San Francisco, Sonoma and southern Monterey counties.

A Pacific storm in the Gulf of Alaska has generated large west to northwest swells that are headed to the California coast.

Beginning Monday night, the affected coastal areas could see strong rip currents, large waves and sneaker waves.

The National Weather Service is advising beachgoers to be aware of the heightened risk of being caught in rip currents and being swept out to sea.
