📰 News we're reading

1. Chaparral football team makes play on defense and special teams to beat Norco (redlandsdailyfacts.com) — Chaparral High's football team in Temecula rolled past Norco 42–16 on homecoming night, leaning on big defensive plays and special teams despite a sluggish offense. A blocked punt, pick-six, and late touchdown burst powered the Pumas to 4–3 and 2–0 in league, as they now turn their focus to an important upcoming road game at Murrieta Mesa.

2. Update: Full containment now attained for Carancho Fire in Riverside County (sacbee.com) — Fire crews have fully contained the 13.7-acre Carancho Fire that broke out October 6 near Carancho Road and Frens Road in Temecula, easing immediate wildfire concerns for nearby residents. While the blaze is ringed by control lines, officials note it may continue burning inside the perimeter as they work toward full control and investigate the cause.

3. America's Best And Safest City To Live In 2026 Isn't In California Or Florida (explore.com) — Temecula ranks No. 8 among the 315 U.S. cities analyzed in MoneyGeek's 2026 safety study, making it one of only three California cities to crack the top 20. While the article mainly spotlights Carmel, Indiana, Temecula residents can take note that their city stands out nationally for relatively low crime costs and strong overall safety compared with many other large communities.

4. Some California beaches forced to close after 'unusually high' ocean water levels from Tropical Storm Rachel (abcnews.com) — Southern California's coast is seeing serious flooding and beach closures, but inland communities like Temecula also felt Tropical Storm Rachel's punch, with thunderstorms bringing wind gusts over 60 mph and up to two inches of rain. Those intense bursts caused isolated flash flooding and debris flows, underscoring that even areas away from the shoreline face storm-related hazards and travel disruptions.
