Set on the historic Timber School site, it preserves the old schoolhouse while offering modern amenities, access to Conejo Valley parks, and placement in the Conejo Valley Unified School District near the 101.

• Kingsmen Smoke Bulldogs, Defend the Smudge Pot (cluecho.com) — California Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks rolled past Redlands 40-14, defending the Smudge Pot with a dominant second half at William Rolland Stadium. Quarterback Joe Farley led a balanced offensive surge while the Kingsmen defense forced key turnovers, and the team now turns its focus to an Oct. 3 road matchup against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.

• Newsom signs legislation aimed at making Californians healthier (courthousenews.com) — New statewide health laws backed by Gov. Gavin Newsom will soon change what foods, vapes, and diet supplements can be sold in California, including in Thousand Oaks. Local Assemblymember Jacqui Irwin authored a new ban on disposable vaping devices, part of a broader push to curb youth nicotine use and promote healthier food options in schools and restaurants over the next decade.

- Growing up back East in New York on pizza, meat and potatoes, sometimes you just gotta get out of your comfort zone and try things.
