• Daily Breeze football Top 10: Palos Verdes takes over No. 1 after win over Serra (dailybreeze.com) — Torrance football opened its season 1-0 with a big passing night from quarterback Gibson Turner in a 41-28 win over Mira Costa, earning the Tartars the No. 5 spot in the Daily Breeze Top 10. Several other South Bay powers, including Redondo Union and West Torrance, also cracked the rankings, setting up a busy Friday slate featuring Torrance teams home and away.
   

• Flying with the Tigers (aopa.org) — A civilian Tiger Squadron of Nanchang CJ–6 pilots is based at Zamperini Field in Torrance, flying frequent formation flyovers for parades, festivals and memorials across the region. Led by longtime local pilot Ekberg, the group trains year-round from a well-known Torrance hangar that's become a social hub for South Bay aviators and even hosted legends like Louis Zamperini. Their work now includes sponsored flyovers tied to events such as the BeachLife Festival.
