Citizen Tip Leads To Union City Burglary Arrest

UNION CITY, CA — On one evening last week, a Decoto resident saw a stranger take something out of his neighbor's truck bed. He told the stranger to put the item back, but the stranger pulled out a knife.

The resident smartly called UCPD, who found a man leaving a knife in some nearby bushes (the man also matched the caller's description). UCPD was able to arrest the man on weapons charges.

The resident did many right things--watching out for his neighbors and trying to stop crime, but also recognizing when it was time to let the police do their job. We never want residents to put themselves in danger, especially to confront criminals. Remember, UCPD is only a phone call away.
