Schools Close For 3 Weeks In Union City: Coronavirus

New Haven Unified School District made the announcement on Friday.

UNION CITY, CA — The New Haven Unified School District will close for three weeks, until Monday, April 6, because of the new coronavirus, or COVID-19, the school district announced Friday. Learning resources for students will be shared soon.

"We would like to be clear that there are no confirmed COVID-19 cases among New Haven students or staff," the district said in a printed release. "Though we expect COVID-19 cases to rise over the next few weeks, we believe this action, coupled with actions by other local government agencies, will work to slow the spread."

Information about serving breakfast and lunch to students who rely on free meals is being finalized.

The district recommends that students stay home and minimize social contact as much as possible, in order for the closure to be effective. "Though children have not been shown to be at high-risk for serious complications from the disease, infected students with even mild symptoms can spread the virus to the elderly or other vulnerable populations."
