Level One Blacksmithing – Monthly Project Class
This class is designed for students who have completed Blacksmithing 101 and are ready to continue developing their forging skills through the California Blacksmiths Association (CBA) Level One certification program.
Each monthly class focuses on one of the required Level One projects, allowing students to build the fundamental techniques needed to progress through the certification pathway. Students will practice skills such as drawing out, tapering, bending, twisting, and forming steel while receiving hands-on instruction and individual coaching from experienced blacksmiths.
Completion of 12 projects is required to achieve CBA Level One Certification. Students may attend these monthly classes at their own pace as they work toward completing the full set of projects.
Please read all requirements before signing up:
<ul><li>Registration and payment are required in advance as class size is limited to maintain a low student-to-instructor ratio.</li><li>Participants must bring and wear appropriate safety equipment, including impact-rated eye protection, natural fiber clothing, long pants, and closed-toe leather shoes or boots.</li><li>No shorts or open-toe shoes are permitted.</li><li>Hearing protection, a leather apron, hats, and drinking water are recommended.</li><li>Hammers and other tools are available for use during class. A personal hammer is not required, but if you wish to bring your own, we recommend a 1–2 lb wood-handled rounding or ball peen hammer. Do not bring a claw hammer.</li><li>There are no refunds for no-shows.</li></ul>

AGSEM Class Registration — Cancellation &amp; Reschedule Policy
Due to the limited class sizes and the nonprofit nature of the Antique Gas &amp; Steam Engine Museum’s educational programs, all class registration fees are non-refundable.
Class Reschedule Requests
<ul><li>One (1) class reschedule per registration may be permitted at no charge if requested at least seven (7) days prior to the scheduled class date.</li><li>Reschedule requests made less than seven (7) days before the class date will not be accommodated.</li><li>Rescheduled registrations are subject to class availability.</li><li>Additional reschedule requests for the same registration will not be permitted.</li></ul>
No-Shows
Registrants who do not attend their scheduled class and have not contacted AGSEM in advance forfeit their registration fee and reschedule eligibility.
Cancellation by AGSEM
If AGSEM cancels a class for any reason, including insufficient enrollment or unforeseen circumstances, registrants will be offered either:
<ul><li>A transfer to another available class date, or</li><li>A full refund.</li></ul>
AGSEM reserves the right to cancel or reschedule classes as necessary.
By completing registration, you acknowledge and agree to the terms of this policy.

Learn the centuries-old craft of broom making in this hands-on class at the Antique Gas &amp; Steam Engine Museum. Using traditional materials and techniques, you will hand-tie and shape your own functional broom from scratch — and take it home at the end of class.
No experience needed. Just bring your hands and leave with something real.
What you'll learn:
<ul><li>Traditional broom corn selection and preparation</li><li>Hand-tying and binding techniques</li><li>Shaping and finishing a functional broom</li><li>The history of broom making as an American craft tradition</li></ul>

Introduction to Broom Making: Craft a Traditional Hand-Tied Broom

Vista Forge

This event is on Sept. 3rd- and 10th, and all participants must purchase tickets for both dates to join us.Learn to work with a coal forge, safely handle hot metal, and use tools such as hammers to forge, bend, and twist metal into desired shapes. Students will complete two projects each. A limited class size and low student to teacher ratio ensures plenty of coaching as you learn. Following completion of the class, students will be able to attend other blacksmithing classes as well as forge their own projects during open forge times. 
Please read all requirements before signing up:
<ul><li>Registration and payment is required before attending first class as new student space is limited.</li><li>Adults and youth students must bring and wear their own safety equipment, including eye protection, natural fiber clothing, and closed toe shoes. </li><li>No shorts or open toe shoes may be worn.</li><li>Participants must wear impact-rated eye protection at all times while working.</li><li>Hearing protection, a leather apron, hats, and drinking water are recommended.</li><li>Hammers and other tools are available for use during class. A personal hammer is not required, but if you wish to use your own hammer, we recommend a wood handled rounding or ball peen hammer between 1-2 pounds. Do not bring a claw hammer.</li><li>There are no refunds for no shows.</li></ul>
Participants in this class have the opportunity to begin working toward Level One Certification through the California Blacksmiths Association (CBA). To earn Level One certification, students must successfully complete 12 foundational blacksmithing projects that demonstrate essential forging techniques and skills.
For those wishing to continue their training, Level Two Certification requires completion of 28 advanced projects, further developing craftsmanship, precision, and mastery of traditional blacksmithing methods.
These certifications provide a structured pathway for blacksmiths to build skills, track progress, and achieve recognized milestones within the craft.
<h3>Cancellation &amp; Reschedule Policy</h3>
Cancellation by Registrant
Registration fees are non-transferable to another person.
<ul><li>7 or more days before the class date: Full refund to the original payment method.</li><li>3–6 days before the class date: No cash refund. A credit equal to 100% of the registration fee will be applied to the registrant's AGSEM account and is valid for 12 months from the date of cancellation.</li><li>Less than 72 hours before the class date: No refund and no credit will be issued.</li></ul>
Reschedule Requests
One reschedule per registration is permitted at no charge, provided the request is made at least 72 hours before the class date. Reschedule requests made within 72 hours of the class date will not be accommodated. A second reschedule request for the same registration is subject to a $10 administrative fee.
No-Shows
Registrants who do not attend and have not contacted AGSEM in advance forfeit their registration fee in full. No refund or credit will be issued.
Cancellation by AGSEM
If AGSEM cancels a class for any reason, including insufficient enrollment, registrants will be notified at least 48 hours in advance and will receive their choice of a full refund or a transfer of registration to another available class date. AGSEM reserves the right to cancel any class that does not meet minimum enrollment requirements.
