WALNUT CREEK, CA — Beth Curasi has shared these photos of a Red Shouldered Hawk in Walnut Creek. According to the National Audubon Society, in California and Mexico, the hawks are year-round residents that do not migrate. They mainly eat small mammals, amphibians, reptiles, and smaller birds. Here in California, their favored habitats are riverside forest, oak woodland, or eucalyptus groves.
Thank you to Beth for not just snapping these photos, but also for identifying the hawk.
