
The newly revitalized Springfield Grange, located at the corners of Elkhorn and Werner Rds. in Royal Oaks, CA, will be hosting its first Pancake Breakfast Fundraiser 9 a.m. to noon, Saturday, Feb. 18.
The meal will feature multigrain organic pancakes, California grown fruit salad, fair trade and organic coffee, and assortment of juices, milk, and teas. Tickets may be purchased at the event: adult admission is $5, senior citizens $4, and kids eat for $3. For an additional cost, local, organic farm-fresh scrambled eggs and or breakfast meat may be added to one’s plate. The event also features live performances by Watsonville musician Uriel Mendoza, and folkloric dance by the troop Las Estrellas de Esperanza.
, an 80-year old organization which is part of the larger California State and National Granges, has served as a social and political hub for farmers and in our region. . President of the Springfield Grange, Alan Hicks, feels that this growth is due to the rising interest in sustainable agriculture, quality food, farmers markets, and a desire for a place for community building and a space for activities.
