PRUNEDALE, CA β€” A 68th car has been struck by a projectile near Prunedale, California Highway Patrol of Monterey said Monday. The car was driving along Highway 101 near Dunbarton Road around 8 p.m. when it was hit. There were no reported injuries, but the driver's window was shattered, CHP said in a Facebook post.

CHP has created a task force to catch the culprit and said it is following up on leads daily. A motorhome and passenger vehicle were hit last Monday night, KSBW reported. The 68 cars have been hit around the same stretch of Highway 101 since February 2019, CHP said.

"This investigation has been long and arduous but we are hopeful we will be able bring it to a close soon," wrote Cpt. Kyle Foster in a Facebook post. "We want to thank the public for your patience as work towards bringing those responsible to justice."

Foster previously told KSBW that the projectile-thrower had committed "a sheer act of terror," the attacks had become more frequent and bold, and officers had spent hundreds of hours on the investigation.

The reward is $15,000 for anyone with information leading to an arrest and the Monterey County Sheriff's Office is collecting donations for anyone who wants to increase the award.
