Retail Apocalypse: 5 More Chains Closing Colorado Stores
The latest in a series of business closings affect three stores and two restaurant chains.
Many stores and restaurants are closing across the United States as companies go bankrupt and struggle to compete with the online retail empire. Already in 2020, at least five chains have announced closures in Colorado.
Pier 1

Pier 1 Imports, which has 10 locations in Colorado, is closing hundreds of stores, the company announced earlier this month. The retail chain said up to 450 locations — about half of its total — would be closed to "better align its business with the current operating environment." The company did not release a list of which stores were closing in Colorado; however according to a Business Insider report, stores in Boulder, Littleton, Avon and Colorado Springs are closing.

Village Inn's parent company, American Blue Ribbon Holdings, LLC., has filed for bankruptcy and announced the closure of 33 restaurants across the country. Lucky's Market

The Niwot-based grocery store chain Lucky's Market is closing dozens of stores across the country after Kroger announced it would sell off its stake in the chain. The stores in our state that will remain open are in North Boulder and Fort Collins. The chain has also halted plans to open a store in Denver's Lowry neighborhood, and said there would be a reduction in staff at the company's Niwot office.
Papyrus

Papyrus, a stationery retailer, is reportedly closing all of its stores across the country. The company, which once had 450 locations, is down to 260 stores, which are currently in liquidation. Papyrus has announced a 20 percent off storewide sale.
