BOULDER, CO — A person died Monday from what appears to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound after a traffic stop in South Boulder. The sound of gunfire caused Boulder police to issue a shelter in place for more than 200 homes, and a SWAT team was called.

An officer stopped a vehicle with a stolen license plate in the 2800 block of Moorhead Avenue, police said. After the vehicle stopped, the officer heard a gunshot and called for backup.

A reverse 911 was sent to 229 homes within a five-block radius advising community members to shelter in place. The shelter in place advisement has been lifted.
