$100K Worth Of Boulder County Parks Equipment Vandalized

Tires were slashed, wires and hoses were cut, grass was stuffed into gas tanks and seats and seatbelts were slashed, parks officials said.

BOULDER COUNTY, CO — Deputies are investigating a vandalism case that left an estimated $100,000 worth of damage to equipment on a Boulder County Parks and Open Space property.

A deputy was called Wednesday morning to the Imel Open Space property, near 63rd St. and Oxford Rd. in unincorporated Boulder County. The property, which is closed to the public, is undergoing a prairie dog management project.

"Damage was done to every utility vehicle and trailer on the property," the Boulder County Sheriff's Office said in a news release. "The damage included slashed tires, wires and hoses cut, grass stuffed into gas tanks, shovels thrown into the pond, and seats and seatbelts slashed."

Around 70 prairie dog traps were recently damaged at the Hillside Estates Open Space property, near the intersection of Highway 52 and N. 79th St., officials said. It's unclear whether the two vandalism cases are related.
