Boulder County Crews Called To 2 Grass Fires In 4 Hours

Dry conditions continue to heighten the threat of wildfires in Colorado.

BOULDER COUNTY, CO — Firefighters, deputies and park rangers were called to two grass fires Thursday night in Boulder County.

The first fire may have been caused by a lightning strike, the Boulder County Sheriff's Office said. Someone called 911 after seeing the fire in the 7700 block of Hygiene Road, near Longmont.

A Hygiene Fire Protection District crew and park rangers were able to contain the fire to around half an acre, officials said.

Then another fire was reported around 9:40 p.m. in the 30000 block of Boulder Canyon Drive, near Nederland. Passersby were able to extinguish the small fire before crews arrived, officials said.

The fire may have been caused by a discarded cigarette, the Boulder County Sheriff's Office said.

No injuries were reported in either fire, and no buildings were threatened, officials said.
