Boulder County Sheriff's Office: 24-Year-Old Male Rescued At Chautauqua Park

Boulder County, Colo. - On Wednesday, February 24, 2021, at approximately 5:18 a.m., the Boulder County Communications Center was notified of a male that had attempted suicide by jumping off a rock face in the area of the Royal Arch, just west of Boulder.

The 24-year-old male, reported that he climbed into the area to commit suicide, called for rescue after an approximately 25-40 foot fall. He initially reported to rescuers that he was uninjured, but stuck and required help to get out. Rescuers from Rocky Mountain Rescue Group and rangers from City of Boulder Open Space & Mountain Parks hiked in to locate the injured party. When they arrived on-scene, rescuers determined that he had sustained serious injuries. Rangers and rescuers provided first aid and stabilized him for evacuation to the trailhead.

The injured male was put in a litter and a technical evacuation was conducted to transport the him back to the trailhead. He was transported by ambulance to a local area hospital for further medical care.

Agencies assisting with this rescue effort included: Boulder County Sheriff’s Office, Rocky Mountain Rescue Group, City of Boulder Open Space & Mountain Parks, and American Medical Response.
