Ex-Broncos Lineman Accused Of Shooting Woman In Boulder

Former Broncos and CU Boulder lineman Justin Bannan is facing attempted first-degree murder charges, Boulder police said.

BOULDER, CO — Former Broncos and University of Colorado Boulder lineman Justin Bannan is accused of shooting and wounding a woman in Boulder. The 36-year-old woman was shot in the arm at Black Lab Sports near 3550 Frontier Ave. about 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, police said. She was taken to Boulder Community Health in stable condition.

Bannan, 40, was taken into custody. He's charged with attempted first-degree murder, first-degree assault with extreme indifference, first-degree assault with intent to cause serious bodily injury and first-degree burglary. He's being held at the Boulder County Jail.

Bannan and the woman worked in the building and were acquaintances, but the shooting was described as "random," police said.

Preliminary tests show Bannan had cocaine on him, according to an affidavit obtained by ABC 7. He reportedly was sweating profusely and saying the Russian Mafia was after him.

Bannan was scheduled to appear in court Thursday afternoon.

Bannan played at CU Boulder from 1997 to 2001 before being chosen in the fifth round of the NFL draft by the Buffalo Bills. After playing for the Bills and the Baltimore Ravens, he played for the Broncos from 2010 to 2012 before his retirement in 2013.
