Lafayette Resident Dies From Coronavirus

"Our hearts go out to this family," Boulder County Public Health's director said.

LAFAYETTE, CO — A Lafayette resident in their 60s who tested positive for the new coronavirus has died, Boulder County Public Health confirmed. The patient had underlying health conditions that were "exacerbated" by the virus, health officials said. This is the first death reported in Boulder County.

“Our hearts go out to this family,” Jeff Zayach, director of Boulder County Public Health, said in a statement. “My hope is that we all view this heartbreaking news as a solemn warning about the importance of heeding the Stay-at-Home Order and social distancing requirements in order to prevent more tragedies like this.”

The patient was a friendly man who was loved by many, KVDR reported. His family was shocked by how quickly his health deteriorated, and they are also warning people to take the stay-at-home order seriously.

Including his death, 62 Boulder County residents have tested positive for COVID-19 as of Thursday morning, health officials confirmed. Seven people are getting care in the hospital and seven are currently under investigation.

There are 23 residents isolating at home in the county, and 24 residents have now recovered, health officials said. Those who've positive for the disease range in age from the teens to the 80s, and the average age is 46 years.
