BOULDER, CO — The City of Boulder's new transportation and mobility director, Carlos Hernandez, has resigned after only six weeks on the job. Hernandez took over the position Jan. 13 after he was recruited in a national search.

The resignation came as a surprise to Boulder Transportation Advisory Board Member Mark McIntyre, according to a report by The Daily Camera, which first reported the story. McIntyre told the Camera that "it's totally out of the blue" and that he has "no idea why or how this happened."

Hernandez is one of Colorado's leading transportation planning professionals, Boulder officials said earlier this year. He has more than 20 years of experience implementing complete streets, regional transit and multimodal transportation systems.

Hernandez previously partnered with the community and City of Boulder staff on the Chautauqua Access Management Plan, the East Arapahoe Transportation Plan and the 30th and Colorado Corridor study, officials said. He also spent a decade working with advocacy organizations, City and County of Denver staff and neighborhood groups to implement the Denver Moves Mobility Plan, neighborhood-based vision zero plans and high capacity transit projects in downtown Denver.
