Boulder Valley engaged community early, but parents say closure decisions blindsided them (dailycamera.com) — Boulder Valley parents are scrambling ahead of Tuesday's school board vote on a proposal to close or reconfigure 16 schools, including Douglass, Flatirons, Mesa and others affecting Boulder neighborhoods. District leaders say closures will save up to $4 million annually and improve student services, while families argue they were blindsided, question the data, and are pressing for more time, transparency, and alternatives.
   

2. Boulder clerk finds two La Grave mayoral campaign omissions, rejects most claims (boulderreportinglab.org) — Boulder's city clerk found mayoral candidate Aquiles La Grave's campaign failed to properly report about $280 in expenses but rejected most other allegations in a finance complaint from his former campaign manager. The committee must amend filings, while a separate small-claims pay dispute between the two heads to Boulder County Court later this year, keeping the campaign's internal tensions in public view.
   

3. Boulder Police Oversight Panel takes concerns over limits on civilian review to city council (boulderreportinglab.org) — Boulder's Police Oversight Panel will meet with City Council on Sept. 24 to air concerns that recent policy changes are limiting civilian review of misconduct complaints. Panel members and the independent monitor say new procedures let some cases bypass their scrutiny, while police leaders argue they're managing resources and retain authority over complaint handling, setting up a key discussion about the future of local oversight.
   

4. Moose attacks man while hiking in Colorado (denvergazette.com) — A visiting family's hike in the mountains around Boulder turned dangerous when a mother moose charged and trampled one of them after they encountered her calf on a narrow, noisy section of trail. The man escaped with bruises and cuts, thanks in part to quick thinking from companions and a passing trauma PA, underscoring the need for Boulder-area hikers to stay alert around wildlife.
   

5. Healthcare execs seek cures for reimbursement cuts (bizwest.com) — Boulder-area health leaders say federal Medicaid reimbursement cuts are now their biggest worry, on top of ongoing staffing shortages across local hospitals and clinics. Executives from Boulder Community Health, Boulder County Public Health, Boulder County Medical Society and the Boulder Chamber discussed how these changes could affect patient access and the financial stability of providers serving Boulder Valley residents.
