1. Boulder pauses license plate reader vendor selection amid broader policy discussion (9news.com) — Boulder has delayed choosing a new automated license plate reader vendor so residents can weigh in on how the technology should be used and how long data is stored. The city will keep using its current Flock Safety system for now, while cutting data retention to 14 days and planning a broader public engagement process into 2027.
   

2. Boulder could end fully subsidized recreation access for low-income residents in 2027 (boulderreportinglab.org) — Low-income Boulder residents who now use city recreation centers for free may have to start paying 25% of costs in 2027 under a proposed budget. The plan would also shorten Scott Carpenter Pool's season, cut indoor pool hours and fitness classes, and end child care at East Boulder Community Center, while a large Recreation and Safety Bond heads to Boulder's November ballot.
   

3. Phishing emails targeting permit applicants, Boulder County officials warn (dailycamera.com) — Boulder County officials are warning residents, contractors and builders about phishing emails that mimic planning and permitting invoices and sometimes include real property details. Locals are urged to ignore any wire-transfer payment requests, verify invoices directly with county staff, and contact the District Attorney's Community Protection Division if they're unsure about a message's legitimacy.
   

4. CU Boulder predicts first fall enrollment decline since 2020 (dailycamera.com) — CU Boulder expects a small 0.8% enrollment drop this fall, largely because about 400 fewer international students are projected to attend. While other CU campuses also anticipate declines, final numbers for Boulder and the system won't be confirmed until September 30, leaving some uncertainty for local classes, housing and campus services.
   

5. 2 Boulder County communities earn Firewise status with help from youth-based crews (9news.com) — Youth crews supported by Boulder County Wildfire Partners helped Gold Hill and Wondervu earn national Firewise USA status, funded by a county wildfire mitigation sales tax. Teens are also doing free mitigation work at a Boulder mobile home park, clearing vegetation and creating defensible space that can reduce wildfire risk and potentially lower insurance costs for vulnerable residents.
