Here are the top stories today in Boulder:

  1. Boulder voters will decide on funding for climate-related initiatives. A new and expanded tax proposes to raise millions of dollars for projects that will help the Boulder adapt to climate change. The tax was proposed earlier this year as part of a plan to replace two existing climate taxes that are set to expire in 2025. (CPR)
  2. Habitat for Humanity to construct net-zero home with CU Boulder as part of a community project. The University of Colorado's Solar Decathlon team broke ground last week on a net-zero energy home that will be part of Ponderosa Community Stabilization Project that aims to build 60 homes over the next 10 years. (Boulder Daily Camera)
  3. Police are ready after last year's wild halloween on Pearl Street. Boulder's Mall Crawl parties of yesteryear may be history, but last year a crowd got out of hand downtown on Halloween, so Boulder Police say they're keeping a watchful eye out this year. (FOX31)
  4. Did you know "puffing" is illegal in Colorado? "Puffing" is when it's cold out and a driver leaves their car running while the keys are inside the vehicle. It's a great way to warm up your car in the morning, but it leads to thousands of car thefts every year. (Summit Daily)

Patch deal of the day:

Good knives make all the difference in the kitchen, but you don't need to overpay for them. Seido Japanese knives are made with strong high-carbon stainless steel (high-carbon knives are more durable and usually more expensive) and have an acute 15-degree angle for a noticeably sharper cutting face (most Western-style knives have edge angles of 25 degrees). For a limited time, Patch readers can get a 5-piece Seido Japanese master knife set for 71 percent off. At just under $70, this chef-quality set is perfect for any home cook and would also make a great gift for the holidays.
