Woman Seriously Injured In 300-Foot Fall Near Mount Epworth

A hiker suffered serious injuries in a fall down a slope near Needles Eye Tunnel, Boulder County officials said.

BOULDER COUNTY, CO — A Broomfield woman was hospitalized Saturday after she fell around 300 feet down a scree slope near Mount Epworth, Boulder County officials said.

The 57-year-old woman was hiking alone near Needles Eye Tunnel on Rollins Pass Road when she fell down the steep rocky slope, according to the Boulder County Sheriff's Office. Both ground and air search and rescue teams were called to help her just after 2 p.m.

A nurse who was hiking in the area gave the woman first aid before rescuers arrived, officials said.

The Rocky Mountain Rescue Group placed the injured woman in a litter and took her around 500 feet down the hillside to a helicopter.

She was taken to a Denver area hospital with serious injuries. Her condition as of Monday morning was unknown.
