Here are the top three stories in Colorado Springs today:
- A 1970 Air Force Academy graduate has pledged $10 million for the Academy's Scholars Program. John Martinson's gift will be the largest gift ever received by the academy to support academics. The funds will be used to increase the number of honors courses that are available to the cadets. (Colorado Springs Gazette)
- The Colorado Springs Fire Department rescued a stranded paraglider from Red Rock Canyon. The incident was on Saturday night and occurred near the Section 16 trailhead. The department has reported that the paraglider is in stable condition and was able to exit the canyon with assistance. (KKTV)
- A crash involving a Colorado Springs Police Department officer closed a portion of Southbound Powers Boulevard on Saturday. The incident occurred when the officer's vehicle was struck by a driver who failed to yield the right-of-way to the police cruiser with flashing lights and sirens. The officer was responding to a call for service when the vehicle was struck. Both drivers were taken to a local hospital; according to officials, the drivers are expected to recover.
