Getting Veterans Off The Street + Hospitals Stretched Thin

The Colorado Springs Daily is the quickest way to get caught up on the most important things going on in town today.

Hello, people of Colorado Springs! It's me again, Rachel Kilimnik, your host of the Colorado Springs Daily.

First, today's weather:

Rain starting in the afternoon. High: 70 Low: 44.

Here are the top stories today in Colorado Springs:

  1. A local foundation is on a mission to give every single homeless veteran a roof over their head. 719 Heroes is a foundation created by Sellstate Alliance Realty, a local real estate company in Colorado Springs. Their mission is to get all 103 veterans that sleep on the streets of the Springs into transitional housing. The foundation is made up of people who have served or have loved ones in the armed forces, making their mission even more important. (KOAA.com Colorado Springs and Pueblo News)
  2. With the recent surge in COVID-19 cases, Colorado Springs hospitals are stretched thin. As of Tuesday morning, Penrose Hospital had around 420 in-patients with 75 COVID-positive cases. The rise in case numbers is causing a strain on the hospital system, including potential issues such as canceling or postponing elective surgeries in order to free beds for COVID patients and a major labor shortage of healthcare workers. (KRDO)
  3. Colorado's Independent Redistricting Commission has until Friday, Oct. 1, to submit its final proposal for the state's eight congressional districts. (FOX21News.com)
  4. The Retreat at Sunny Vista celebrated the Walk to End Alzheimer's right in their parking lot. (FOX21News.com)
  5. A car that drove off the road and crashed near Highway 115 and Lake Ave. ended up getting stuck among power lines Tuesday. (KRDO)
