🌱 High-Rise Sparks Debate + Colorado's Opioid Abatement Plan

Here are the top stories in Colorado Springs today:

  1. Members of the city's Urban Renewal Authority expressed support and concern Wednesday regarding a proposed 25-story apartment project in the southwest corner of downtown. Some see it as a sign of progress in the growing city and a further redevelopment of downtown, while others question the need for the project and criticize the lack of details on affordable housing and rent costs. City Council President Tom Strand, who's also on the 12-member URA board, said that he has received around a dozen complaints from citizens who don't want their mountain views blocked by the high-rise.   2. County Commissioners approved a Colorado Opioids Settlement Memorandum of Understanding "Colorado MOU" with the Colorado Attorney General's Office. Local governments in El Paso and Teller counties anticipate forming a Regional Abatement Council to ensure that opioid funds are distributed according to the Colorado MOU. El Paso County is expected to receive approximately 18.41% of the funding stream to be used for opioid abatement purposes. (Press Release Desk)
  3. A grass fire burning behind homes in Colorado Springs was put out after an explosion was heard. CSPD officers arrived on the scene within minutes and observed a large grass fire on the west side of Sand Creek, just south of Fountain Blvd. Crews say no one was found in or around the fire. Crews say the fire was contained to a homeless camp and burned about 1/4 of an acre. (KKTV 11 News)
  4. Inside Out Youth Services will host a vaccine clinic in partnership with Governor Polis' Vaccines for All plan, reaching Coloradans in the Hillside neighborhood. (FOX21News.com)
  5. Old Colorado City is celebrating the "Fallidays" on Saturday, Oct. 30 from 12- 5 p.m. with local shops, musicians, and artists all taking part in the festivities. (FOX21News.com)
