🌱Social Justice Through Art + Developers Merge On Project

Get clued into everything new around town today with the Colorado Springs Daily.

Good day, people of Colorado Springs! It's me again, Rachel Kilimnik, your host of the Colorado Springs Daily.

First, today's weather:

Not as warm; a p.m. t-shower. High: 66 Low: 37.

Here are the top stories today in Colorado Springs:

  1. At Heartshake Studios in Old Colorado City, local artist Kit Hutchinson displays their art on everyday items, such as towels for everyone to enjoy and purchase. Kit says they are a practical artist, and they believe in making art more useful. Their art displays the vibrant colors of the southwest but more importantly, some pieces focus on a social justice issue. Kit uses art to bring light to these issues, along with awareness. Kit showcases art pieces from over 200 artists in Heartshake Studios. They believe that this not only adds variety to the store but also allows these artists to express themselves in their store. 2. Marriott and The Olive Group are opening a new hotel in Colorado Springs with a dual-branded concept, two hotels in one location. SpringHill Suites and Element are both very distinct individual brands that together appeal to a wide variety of guests – from families on vacations to business travelers, even those coming to town overnight for an event or just a weekend getaway. Springhill Suites by Marriott has little extras like suites with separate living and sleeping areas, and Element by Westin is for the healthy, active traveler with spacious rooms with fully equipped in-room kitchens. 3. Harrison School District Two and Pikes Peak United Way plan to open a first-of-its-kind family success center in southeast Colorado Springs. Lackluster enrollment rates caused by lower birth rates and fewer housing options are prompting the district to repurpose both Pikes Peak Elementary and Stratmoor Hills Elementary. (KRDO)
  4. The Human Trafficking Task Force of Southern Colorado is advocating for the Colorado Springs City Council to pass an ordinance regulating massage businesses to fight human trafficking. (KRDO)
  5. Cosmo's Magical Theater in Colorado Springs provides a one-of-a-kind magical experience that will leave you astounded – whether you're a kid or a kid at heart. (FOX21News.com)
