4-G Cell Phone Speed In Denver Among Slowest for Big US Cities

An Open Signal study of cell phone coverage in nation's biggest cities shows Denver has 4G speed in bottom 5. Minneapolis is fastest.

DENVER, CO -- If you're struggling to upload a Facebook Live video in Denver and don't seem to have enough 4G, signal don't blame your phone, or even your carrier. A new study by London-based OpenSignal shows Denver has the third-slowest 4G speeds of 35 large U.S. cities.

Minneapolis won the ranking that analyzed overall 4G speeds between July and September. OpenSignal found there was a big gap between the fastest and slowest cities. Minneapolis's average 4G download connection was 21.5 Mbps, almost twice as fast as the 11.65 Mbps average measured in Las Vegas. Denver ranked number 33 of 35 with 13.27 Mbps.

“Denver’s speeds are slower simply because operators don’t have enough LTE capacity to support faster speeds,” Kevin Fitchard, an OpenSignal analyst told Denver Post reporter Tamara Chuang.
