• An 1876 Colorado 'railroad war' climaxed with the kidnapping of a federal judge (durangoherald.com) — Golden plays a starring role in this 1876 "railroad war," when a federal judge was kidnapped after boarding a Colorado Central train in town amid fierce battles over control of the line. Local leaders, newspapers, and even a future Golden confession decades later reveal how deeply the community was entangled in the fight with Denver interests.
