2nd Man Dies After Stabbings In Lakewood's Belmar Park

A man died in a hospital over the weekend after he was stabbed Thursday in Belmar Park, Lakewood police said.

LAKEWOOD, CO — A man who was hospitalized after he was stabbed in Belmar Park Thursday has now died, Lakewood police said. His death marks the second fatality after two separate attacks in the park.

It's still unclear whether the two stabbings are connected, Lakewood police said. No arrests have been made.

Officers were called to the park just after midnight after a man was stabbed near the Lakewood Heritage Center at 801 S. Yarrow St., police said.

A man was talking with his friend when a stranger went up and stabbed the man multiple times and then ran away, Romero said. The man was taken to a hospital, where he died over the weekend, according to a police update.

At 6:55 a.m. on Thursday, someone was walking in Belmar Park when they found a man's body near the Colorado Fallen Firefighters Memorial, Romero said. The man had been stabbed several times. The man has been identified as 61-year-old Stevan Sandvick.

The suspect in the first stabbing was described as a white or Hispanic man in his late teens or early 20s with short black hair. He's about six feet tall and weighs 150 pounds. He was wearing black pants and a black hoodie with an emblem on the chest, police said.

A description of the suspect in the second stabbing has not been released.
