Colorado Coronavirus Update: 3,238 New Cases Reported

Between Saturday afternoon and Sunday afternoon, 3,238 new cases of the coronavirus were reported in Colorado, according to public health data.

As of Sunday, 260,581 people had been infected with the coronavirus in the state among 1,858,341 people who have been tested since the outbreak began, health officials confirmed. Around 14,868 people have been hospitalized, and the death toll has reached 2,724.

Around 48 percent of the state's critical care ventilators were in use as of Sunday, according to the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment.

As of Sunday, 30 percent of Colorado hospitals reported anticipating staff shortages over the next week. Around 12 percent of hospitals reported anticipating ICU bed shortages in the next week.

Many Colorado counties continue to operate under 'Level Red' on the state's COVID-19 dial. Under the level, indoor dining at restaurants is prohibited, and the last call for ordering alcohol is 8 p.m.

Hinsdale County, with a population of 820 people, is the only county in the state that's operating under 'Level Blue,' which allows indoor dining at 50 percent capacity and a last call at midnight.

Colorado's first gentleman Marlon Reis has been hospitalized after he tested positive for the coronavirus, Gov. Jared Polis' office confirmed Sunday.

Over the weekend, Reis had a "worsening cough and shortness of breath," the office said in a news release.

Polis announced Nov. 28 that he and his husband tested positive for the coronavirus and that they were isolating in their home.

"No person or family is immune to this virus. I urge every Coloradan to practice caution, limit public interactions, wear a mask in public, stay 6 feet from others, and wash your hands regularly," the governor said in a statement when he first announced their positive tests.
