Fire Danger: All Open Fires Banned in Lakewood Parks

Hot, dry weather means no campfires are allowed in Lakewood open space or parks because of extreme fire danger.

LAKEWOOD, CO – The temperatures are in the triple-digits and warm dry winds are gusting through the area. In the week leading up to July 4th celebrations, the City of Lakewood issued a fire ban Thursday for all natural areas and open space parks, which means no campfires of any kind are allowed.

Here's what's permitted and what's not:

  • No campfires or charcoal fires including in designated fire grates or rings at Bear Creek Lake Park and Greenbelt, Thunder Valley Park and William Hayden Park on Green Mountain.
  • No smoking in open space parks or natural areas unless you are either in an enclosed structure or vehicle or you are standing in an area 6 feet in diameter that is barren or cleared of all combustible material. Smoking materials must be discarded in approved containers.
  • No fireworks including sparklers because fireworks are always illegal in Lakewood.
  • Liquid or gas-fueled grills, stoves or lanterns are allowed.
  • Charcoal barbecue fires in designated permanent grills are only allowed in Lakewood’s neighborhood parks. See the list at Lakewood.org/parks.

The Jefferson County Sheriff has also issued Stage 2 Fire Restrictions on all unincorporated land in JeffCo.
