Man Sentenced To 16 Years For Robbing, Injuring Elderly Woman

WHEAT RIDGE, CO — A man was sentenced Friday to 16 years in jail for severely injuring an 87-year-old woman in a robbery.

Contarius Lamonye Alexander was found guilty in November of robbery of an at-risk adult with serious bodily injury, third-degree assault of an at-risk adult and identity theft.

On Jan. 7, Wheat Ridge police were called to the Dollar Tree at 44th and Harlan, where they found the elderly woman injured, the DA's office said. She was taken to the hospital, where doctors said her injuries created a "substantial risk of death." She suffered a fractured elbow, cuts, bruises, and abrasions.

Alexander went up to the woman outside the store, grabbed her purse and knocked her to the ground, authorities said. He then dragged her along the pavement as he made his getaway with her purse, according to the DA's office.

An hour later he was seen on surveillance video using her credit card in a convenience store.
