It's unclear (ouraynews.com) — Ouray residents face lingering questions about a city police sergeant's duties, even as county commissioners slash $1.5 million from the draft budget and the city moves toward legal action over its troubled wastewater plant. Recent days also brought a bear break-in at a Main Street restaurant, tests of new emergency sirens on Log Hill, and local runners and school leaders making news around the county. 
• Contain a wildfire? Call in the cows, and give them GPS collars (durangoherald.com) — A recent experiment on the Gold Mountain Fire near Ouray used GPS-collared cattle to graze down grasses along a three‑mile fire line, helping firefighters contain the 39,000‑acre blaze more safely. Western States Ranches, hit hard as the fire raced from near Ouray past Ridgway into the Big Cimarron, say the high‑tech collars also cut labor costs and could aid future wildfire and weed control efforts.

They describe sheer drop‑offs, towering peaks, and suggest basing yourself at nearby Ridgway State Park before tackling the drive, alongside recommendations for other scenic road trips around the country.
