Significant Storm Emerges For Us: Here's When, What We Can Expect
A major coastal storm is forecast to emerge for Connecticut. Here are the new details on when and what impacts we may see from this storm.
CONNECTICUT — A significant coastal storm remains possible for Monday and Tuesday of next week, but a lack of cold air and conflicting estimates of how close the storm will track to Connecticut are complicating any estimates of how much snow and or rain we may receive.
As of Friday, several scenarios remain possible for this coastal storm, including light or moderate snow and rain or just a glancing blow of light precipitation. More specific estimates are expected this weekend on what impacts Connecticut may see from this storm.
"Monday still looks dry, with temps above average (but cooler than the weekend) with highs in the 40s. Thereafter, we’re watching for the development of a coastal storm. Keep in mind we’re about 4 days out, so naturally there is a bunch of uncertainty as to how it will evolve. For now, there will likely be some sort of impact to our Tuesday. Because of this we have issued a First Alert. Unknowns include track and therefore precipitation type (everything is on the table), also timing (there are BIG spreads currently, from when it starts to when it ends by roughly 12 hours). We could be talking about plowable snow; conversely, the storm could just brush us with little to no snow," said WFSB 3 TV Chief Meteorologist Mark Dixon with Scot Haney. "Would be a quick hitting system with not a whole lot of cold air to work with due to the weak high," the weather service said. "Really need to hone in on the specifics for track/intensity and timing, but will be something to closely monitor..."
National Weather Service forecast details for southern Connecticut
In an update Friday morning, the weather service said, "The current forecast takes this low southeast of Long Island going into Monday night with an increase of precipitation. Similar to previous forecast, inland zones have relatively more snow in the forecast compared to the coast. Coastal areas contain mostly rain."
Spring-like weather arrives before the storm chance next week, according to the National Weather Service
Temperatures on Friday are forecast to exceed 50 degrees under partly sunny skies.
On the weekend, clouds return on Saturday and there is a chance for afternoon rain showers. The rain chance is only around 30 percent, according to the weather service. Sunshine returns on Sunday and 50 degree temperatures are forecast.
