Parts of the state woke up to some very light snow this morning but a steadier snow will begin to fall overnight until around noon Saturday, which may drop several inches of snow on much of the state. And then a more powerful storm is possible Sunday night into Monday, which could be a significant snowstorm for most of the state and ice and rain may mix in at the immediate coast.

The National Weather Service says for Southern Connecticut, "Widespread precipitation develops tonight and continues into early Saturday. The precipitation is forecast to be snow inland with a mixture of snow and sleet at the coast. The low departs Saturday afternoon with high pressure returning Saturday night into Sunday. Another low pressure will bring widespread precipitation, possibly snow inland and rain at the coast, Sunday night into Monday. Temperatures will remain well below normal this weekend."

For Northern Connecticut, the weather service says, "Snow will develop tonight and may mix with sleet overnight. Snow accumulations of 1 to 2 inches are possible by morning. Several inches of snow accumulation are possible...The axis of heaviest snowfall may still change."

"Late Sunday into early Monday...A stronger storm will bring the potential for significant snow accumulation," the NWS says of Northern Connecticut.

WTNH News 8 Meteorologist Gil Simmons says, "Snow comes in after midnight tonight and will be heavy for Saturday morning. I am expecting 3 inches to 5 inches for much of the state! The snow will end before noon on Saturday. No problem Saturday night through Sunday “day.” Snow ice and rain Sunday night into Monday morning!"
