Avon BOE to Consider Eliminating Academic Level Classes at High School

Academic is currently the lowest-level of courses offered at the high school

The final draft of policy that would eliminate the “academic” level classes at Avon High School has passed through a Board of Education subcommittee.

“Academic” is currently the lowest-level of courses offered at the high school. It is described as geared toward students who, “...need to acquire and/or improve their ability to demonstrate reading, writing, numeracy and critical thinking skills.”

The change would leave the college preparatory, honors and advanced placement levels for members of the class of 2019.

The Board of Education is scheduled to consider the change at its next meeting on March 24.
