Avon Library To Host Virtual Presentation On 'Beautiful, Beneficial, Blameless Bats'

The Zoom session is scheduled for this evening, beginning at 6 p.m.

Thursday, October 22 at 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Bats are among the most beneficial animals on our planet, yet they have long been misunderstood and persecuted due to superstition, ignorance and misinformation leading to unfounded fear. Multitudes have been destroyed as a result. Bats were accused of being the “cause” of zoonotic diseases such as MERS and SARS and now COVID19. The truth is, bats and other wildlife are not to blame for such viral outbreaks – humans are.

Join Master Wildlife Conservationist and licensed wildlife caretaker Maureen Heidtmann for her Zoom presentation, “Beautiful, Beneficial, Blameless Bats,” and hear how human exploitation, the consumption of wildlife and the destruction of wild lands are the link that unleashes viral epidemics and pandemics, and what we can do to stop the cycle. An advocate for bats since childhood, Maureen has been working on their behalf as a researcher, educator and caretaker for more than 25 years.
