Avon Police Issue Warning On Thefts From Cars

With summer's arrival, police are asking residents to stay vigilant.

AVON, CT — Police have issued a warning that thefts from motor vehicles are likely to increase with the start of summer.

"These incidents generally occur during overnight hours and are perpetrated by small groups who are dropped off in a neighborhood (often in a stolen vehicle)," a police statement reads. "They go driveway to driveway checking for unlocked vehicles. When they find an unlocked vehicle, they look for valuables (GPS, cell phones, electronics, money, sunglasses, etc.). If they find the keys in the vehicle, they steal the vehicle too."

Police encourage people to lock their cars and remove their valuables.
