GoFundMe Set Up To Help Avon Teen's Family After Serious Accident

Avon High School sophomore Liam Shields was badly hurt on Oct. 4 after he was hit by an evading motorist while riding his bike.

AVON, CT — The Avon community is coming together to help the family of an Avon High School sophomore who was badly injured after being hit by a vehicle on his bike Friday night.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help the family of Avon High School sophomore Liam Shields, who is "fighting for his life" in the hospital after being hit by a hit-and-run driver that evening.

The fund was created by Jenny Eldridge, a family friend and co-worker to Liam's mother.

"Her son had the worst nightmare of her life and was hit while biking in Avon in a hit and run accident. He's fighting for his life with significant injuries," wrote Eldrdidge on the GoFundMe site.

"While his family is by his side, we're looking to raise money to support he family now and into the future days as they sit by Liam's side and pray for a full recovery."

She said Liam has a twin brother and plays soccer for Avon High School.

Currently, the goal is to raise $30,000, with $16,517 already raised as of Monday afternoon.

On Friday, Oct. 4, Avon police charged a motorist in connection with a hit-and-run incident on Arch Road in Avon.

The motorist was charged with first-degree reckless endangerment; evading responsibility for serious physical injury; operating a motor vehicle without a license; and two counts of risk of injury to a minor.
