Golf Club of Avon Golf Professionals Honored
NORTH STONINGTON, Conn. – On Sunday evening November 17th, two Golf Professionals from the Golf Club of Avon were honored at the 2013 Connecticut Section PGA Special Awards Banquet. Don Malen, Director of Golf was awarded the Bill Strausbaugh Award, and First Assistant Steve Madison was recognized as Assistant Professional of the Year. A small group of members also attended the annual awards dinner in support of Don and Steve.
The Bill Strausbaugh Award is presented to those PGA members who by their day-to-day efforts have made significant contributions through mentoring of PGA Professionals and to building the image of the game of golf, the PGA Professional, and the Association. The award also considers the overall integrity and character of the PGA member, their service to the Association, and their involvement in community and charitable activities. This award is one of the PGA’s highest honors and epitomizes Don Malen’s long career as a Golf Professional and a mentor to many other golf professionals.

The Assistant Professional of the Year Award recognizes an Assistant Professional for outstanding overall performance, leadership ability, and service relative to the promotion of golf, participation in Assistants’ Association activities, and the demonstration of excellence in his/her performance while employed. In addition to being an Assistant Golf Professional at The Golf Club of Avon, Steve also currently serves as the President of the Assistants Association for the PGA Connecticut Section.
