I am again pleased to have this opportunity to communicate with you. The purpose of my communication is to provide you with specific information regarding policy work being completed by the Board of Education.

Specifically, the Board of Education Policy Subcommittee has completed work on preparing a revised 2000 series of policies for the Board of Education to consider approving at the August Board meeting. The proposed, revised series is accessible at the following link:

The Policy Subcommittee has also completed work revising policies 4115 and 4131. The proposed, revised draft series is accessible at the following link: http://www.avon.k12.ct.us/info/Backpack/default.asp?catid=1
Additionally, I have received inquiries regarding when the 2014-2015 bus routes will be made available to parents.

After conferring with Specialty Transportation, it was agreed that the routes would be completed and made available via the district website and other electronic means on or before Aug. 15. The release of this information will be preceded by an announcement similar to this one.

Last and certainly not least, I have been notified that our visiting teachers from China have arrived safely in the United States and will be joining us at our program to orient new staff to the district.

As you may recall, we have established a unique relationships with the Confucius Institute, recently inaugurated on the campus of Central Connecticut State University, whereby the Institute funds the majority of the costs associated with having teachers working with students in our schools.

We are excited by the opportunities that the study of the Chinese culture and language will bring to our students in grades kindergarten through twelve.

Again, I will continue to communicate with you frequently as we approach the start of another exciting school year. Thank you all for your continued support and thank you again for the privilege of serving you and your children. I look forward to communicating with you again soon.

Very truly yours,
Gary
