About the attempted assassination of Former President Trump

Yesterday, July 13th, was a very sad and troubling day for America. I am deeply relieved that President Trump is safe and stable after having been shot during a rally in Pennsylvania. I am also deeply saddened at the death of a rally attendee, a retired fire chief who died shielding his wife and daughters during the shooting, and the critical wounding of 2 other attendees. I hope all CT citizens, officials and candidates will join in condemning this sickening attempted assassination and thanking the Secret Service and first responders for their brave actions.

Violence has no place in our political process or in our society. Nor has inciting violence, as unfortunately some of President Trump's opponents have done in recent weeks.
I am also deeply angered by and ashamed of some of our elected officials and their staff for stating they wished the assassin had succeeded.

This incident underscores the need for all Americans to embrace our common goals and abandon the politics of division and growing promotion of special interests above our common interests as Americans.
