A New Doctor's Office Coming to Town, Disagreements Over Shrubbery and Approval of a Recording Studio
Bethany Planning and Zoning Meeting Sept. 7, 2011

A brief summary of last night's Planning and Zoning meeting for those who want to know what's happening in town, but can't make it to the meetings.
- General Practitioners of Hamden applied for a business change of use for a unit in Amity 63 Plaza at 696 Amity Road. The application is for a medical office staffed by a physician’s assistant, Lynette White. Because of regulations regarding how much water might be used by the office the realty management agency would have to commit to not renting out one other unit for the duration of the tenancy. The commission approved the change-of-use pending their receipt of a letter from the landlord specifying which unit would remain empty, a letter from the water authority and a letter from Quinnipiac Valley Health District.
- William Grieger, with a business located at 437 Amity Road, appeared before the board to ask why his certificate of occupancy had not yet been signed. According to the commission, Grieger had not yet complied with a condition of his permit, which required certain plantings to be completed. Grieger argued that a bond was posted and in effect. Also, he disagreed with the commission’s opinion as to what plantings he should install. The commission agreed to release his certificate of occupancy with the condition that he needs to come back before the commission and amend the site plan. If he does not, and if he does not comply with the already approved plantings as shown, P & Z will begin the process of pulling the bond in January.
- An application to operate a sound recording studio at 60 Mesa Drive was granted to Shimei Fan and Richard Korb.
- Conditions regarding the subdivision at 100 Miller Road were granted a 90 day extension pending the results of further engineering work.
- The commission scheduled a public hearing for next month’s meeting regarding an amendment to zoning regulations regarding signage.
