Assumption Parish Welcomes Director of Adult Formation

WOODBRIDGE, CT - Our Lady of the Assumption Parish welcomes Sister Carolyn Severino, ACSJ as the parish's Director of Adult Faith Formation and Evangelization.

Sr. Severino introduced herself during the in-person Masses this weekend and submitted this bio for publication in the weekly bulletin.

My name is Sr. Carolyn Severino and I am an Apostle of the Sacred Heart of Jesus living in Hamden at Mount Sacred Heart.

Born and raised in New Haven, CT, I attended Sacred Heart Academy and my life changed! The rest is history!

I received my Bachelor Degree from Loyola University in Chicago and my Master’s Degree from New York University. I have a four year certificate in Spiritual Direction from Sacred Heart University in Fairfield and a four year certificate from the Archdiocesan Biblical School. So I set to work in using my education by teaching in elementary school in the Bronx and in Chicago. I then moved on to teaching in our two academies: Cor Jesu in St. Louis, MO and Sacred Heart Academy in Hamden.

I was then asked to move into administration and so became an administrative principal in Pennsylvania, New Haven and Florida and later on, in Branford. Then a whole new world opened for me in parish ministry. My experiences in Pennsylvania, Cromwell, North Haven, Hamden, West Haven and Branford, CT consisted of Youth Minister, Director of Religious Education, RCIA, working with Separated & Divorced, visiting the sick and homebound, Family Catechesis, working with alienated Catholics, baptism programs, spiritual direction, family preparation for children receiving the sacraments.

When our Province opened a spirituality center in Hamden, The Caritas Christi Center, I was asked to be the Director which I did for three years. Then I met Fr. Ford. Where do I begin?? As Director of Adult Faith Formation at St. Mary Parish in Branford, programs were offered for RCIA, alienated Catholics, spiritual direction, book studies and stewardship.

My last two years offered me the opportunity and privilege of serving as a missionary in Waterford, Ireland. And so I returned to America on June 1st and here I am ready to serve you in deepening your love for our Catholic faith, your own personal relationship with Christ, and reaching out to those in need of our love.

Hopefully, this will be accomplished through the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA), LANDINGS (a program for those wanting to return to the Faith), videos/discussions on the Mass and the Sacraments. Your interest and participation will be welcomed and will make this possible.
