Bids for Town Roofs, a Paper Shredding Day and Who Can Use the Bethany Ball Field

The Bethany Board of Selectmen took action on a few items at its Nov. 28 meeting.

A brief synopsis of what happened at last night’s Bethany Board of Selectmen’s meeting:

  • The selectmen opened bids for the town hall vault roof and the town garage roof. Shoreline Home Improvement of East Haven bid $14,800 for the town hall roof and $5,200 for the town garage roof, while D & R Custom Builders of Woodbridge bid $10,500 for the town hall roof and $5,800 for the garage roof. Public works officials will now review the documents before a final decision is made.
  • Stu Horton of the Bethany Lions Club appeared before the BOS to discuss a Lions Club sponsored paper shredding day as a public service to town residents. The event would be held in April at the recycling area. The BOS endorsed the idea pending the working out of the final details.
  • First Selectman Derrylyn Gorski said she had been contacted by a resident who had spoken with a member of the Bethany Athletic Association (BAA) regarding the use of the ball fields for another Bethany league and was told that wouldn’t be possible. Gorski said, according to the contract with the BAA, they were obligated to allow other leagues use of the fields. The BOS will look into renegotiating the BAA’s contract with the town as the 20-year lease is now at its end.
  • The board voted on several requests by the South Central Regional Conference of Governments. One will allow them to apply for a grant, and another will allow them to develop a regional GIS system to allow accessibility between the towns.
  • The audit is almost complete and should be ready for the Bethany Board of Finance meeting on Dec. 13.
